Being Muslim (at times not a very good one though still trying...), I've been taught that Valentine's Day opposes our religious beliefs, as it has Christian roots... although that didn't and hasn't stop me from welcoming all those gifts and flowers right throughout school and now hint,hint***.. :P
Some other friends of mine (guys who havent gotten gifts for the other halfs mainly) would also argue that we don't need A particular day to show love by giving gifts, it should be celebrated everyday (to which I would then ask if they actually manage to SHOW their love to their other halfs EVERY day, of course doubting them right away if they nodded more than enthusiastically....)
So, although I don't actually celebrate St. Valentine being the romeo that he is.... In goodwill, I will join in millions of others tomorrow, NOT in celebrating St. Valentine's... but in appreciating a marked day in the spirit of love.
Now, if only D will shake off his 'men-must-be-strong-and-macho image, no-need-for-gifts-giving' and get me something... anything, even dried flowers... I would be more than happy :)
