Spent the last few nights of Ramadhan, and the first few days of Eid @ Hubz parents' village, a real eye-opener, in a good way I s'pose. Missed the parents on the last evening of buka... the takbir raya from the surrounding mosques which went on throughout the night made me even more homesick than I thought I would be.
BUT... Hubz being around made up for everything else, and I am sure MIL and the rest of his family members were much more than relieved at having him home at this point of time.
Thankful, I so am that he got back.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Sooooooo. The throngs of guests and well-wishers that came by to the in-laws house on the 1st day of Eid had me sneezing and gasping for air (okay, so maybe it was an asthma attack from the millions of smoke particles coming out of the gazillion cigarrettes that the Indonesian men seem to have on their lips at every other second of the day).... but it was amazing seeing almost the whole village all turn up at one place in one day. not so amazing was trying to remember who was whom and where or how the relation was, and ending up incorrectly addressing many of the guests. and then there were the sets and sets of kids in brightly-coloured baju kurongs, who came and went and came and went, and I had no idea which ones came first or which ones already got the customary green packets cos I couldn't figure out who was who in the first place. LOL
oh well, there's a first time to everything, right?
The main difference though, was that Eid celebrations in the village kinda dies off after the initial couple of days... and life goes back to normal quickly. Here in Singapore though, Eid celebrations goes on way past the 2nd week, giving us more reasons to pack on the pounds eating kuihs every day, heh.
So anyway, here's to the next week of celebrations here :) and yes, my sincerest apologies for a very belated EID MUBARAK from me...Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin!
XOXO
